ABOUT

isolovebotanics developed as an idea during Melbourne/Naarm's covid-19 lockdowns and was initially an Instagram page by artist Heather Hesterman. In an attempt to draw attention to human's 'plant blindness' this website encourages people to look and honour all vegetal-beings whose lives humans depend upon. Shifting the viewpoint from a human-centred Anthropocentric position to being plant-focused, this public art project invites everyone to connect with plants in the Planthropocene.

To 'cultivate chlorophilia'- is to develop a deep love for plants, as well as caring, growing and engaging with all Plant and Fungi Kingdom communities. Members of the public can share their IRL and digital love for plants - small, large, indoor, aquatic, exotics and/or natives by taking photographs and adding the hashtag  #isolvebotanics on Instagram as you walk and explore.

This site will also offer walks and workshops for people to come together as a community of strangers to get close and personal with plants. To see, touch, listen, taste and share vegetal- stories.

I acknowledge the people of the Woi wurrung and Boon wurrung language groups of the eastern Kulin Nations on whose unceeded lands in Naarm/Melbourne I work, create and live.
I pay my respects to their Ancestors and Elders, past and present who have lived here for 65,000years+
